AI capability establishes what may be technically possible. It does not determine what should be delegated. Operating GIOS taught me to vary AI responsibility according to evidence quality, verifiability, reversibility, consequence, and decision authority.
AI can make an argument more polished without making it better supported. I have found it more useful when it can test assumptions, separate evidence from interpretation, and challenge my reasoning without taking authority over the decision.
Human review should not exist simply because AI is imperfect. The real design question is where judgment, authority, context, and accountability materially improve the decision—and where deeper automation makes sense.
Automation without sufficiently defined governance can create operational debt.
AI systems may reduce manual effort in one part of the organization while creating hidden operating burden elsewhere through exceptions, rework, oversight, audit gaps, escalation failures, unclear accountability, additional human review, and control requirements.
Operational debt is the accumulated complexity created when automation scales faster than the surrounding organization can absorb, govern, monitor, and correct it.
