As automation and programmable systems move deeper into enterprise operations, leaders need enough infrastructure literacy to understand how execution, verification, settlement, provenance, ownership, and control affect whether strategy can work under real operating conditions.
Senior leaders do not need to become infrastructure engineers. They do need to understand enough about the underlying systems to ask better questions, recognize constraints, challenge assumptions, and evaluate feasibility.
THE FRICTION POINT
Enterprise leaders often evaluate emerging technology at the application layer.
They ask what the tool does, what workflow it improves, or what use case it enables. Those questions matter, but they are incomplete.

A strategy may look sound at the application or planning layer and fail when exposed to liquidity constraints, settlement behavior, fragmented systems, ownership ambiguity, reconciliation requirements, weak auditability, or infrastructure dependencies.
Infrastructure literacy helps leaders evaluate whether a proposed system can hold up under real operating conditions.

Leaders need to understand how the underlying environment records decisions, executes actions, verifies outcomes, handles exceptions, creates audit evidence, establishes completion or finality, and enforces access, ownership, and control.
That understanding helps them challenge assumptions before strategy becomes dependent on infrastructure the organization cannot govern, explain, or operate reliably.

- Where does decision logic live?
- Where does execution occur?
- How is settlement or completion confirmed?
